I just finished this and I totally agree, Letters from LA was my favorite chapter. Gave some nice (temporary) warmth to the book before ripping it away again. The corniness worked well and was so funny, kind of reminded me of the beginning scene of Mulholland Drive where Betty first arrives to LA full of optimism and naïveté!
Would love to see some of your takes on Salinger's work! Niche in the best way.
I’ll see what I can do to clean my notes up

This was an absolutely fantastic review. I found it when trying to find a copy of In the Islands to attach to my own review, which is here:

What you've written has added to my experience of this book, even after completing my own review.
